Haute Couture Fashion Shows in Paris ended. Today, January 28, and for 5 days, Rome is the seat of Haute Couture. The AltaRomAltaModa's schedule is full of shows, historical names and new talents, but also events, encounters, presentations, exhibitions, parties and happenings.

Here are some scheduled events:

- AI, Artisanl Intelligence, presentation of the first AltaRoma's magazine which speaks of craftsmanship and Made in Italy.

- Fashion on Paper, Festival dedicated to publishing fashion, where fashion is a meeting place of music, art and design.

- Limited/Unlimited, exhibition of 42 new talents' limited edition collections.

- La moda è un romanzo, Stile ed eleganza nei capolavori della letteratura. Presentation of Fabiana Giacomotti's essay.

- (es)* ARTISANAL by Fabrizio Talia, the guest designer of AltaRoma will present a collection that pays tribute to high craftsmanship. The mood of his searching work is embodied in a video that glorifies chaos and the Nietzsche's thought: "one have must chaos within oneself to give birth to a dancing star".

VALENTINO Haute Couture S/S 2011

The Valentino's Haute Couture collection designed by Pier Paolo Piccioli e Maria Grazia Chiuri is very romantic and youthful. Willowy long gowns and shorter flirty dress in nude and pastel colors, some pink floral print, and only two outfits in "rosso Valentino". It's a collection made only with slightly over the knee or long full skirts, no pants for Valentino's Couture woman. Dresses seem to be extremely untouchable by using fabrics such as lace, crepe, mousseline, organza, tulle and gazar.

JEAN PAUL GAULTIER Haute Couture S/S 2011

The Gaultier's Haute Couture collection is a encounter between Parisian seduction of Cancan and London punk rebellion. On the catwalk all iconic garments of the Gaultier fashion house reinterpreted to be contemporary and rock. Silhouette is slim and tapered with the exception for hourglass dresses slightly flared at the bottom. The black sheath dress is worn with the mini-perfecto embroidered with crystals, the classic pinstripe suit becomes contemporary thanks to super-slim leggings and the trench is transformed into a one shoulder robe manteau. Multi-color punk headgears are gorgeous.

GIVENCHY Haute Couture Spring/Summer 2011

Riccardo Tisci chose Japan as a source of inspiration for Givenchy Haute Couture. The fashion designer has mixed the beauty of the dancer Kazuo-Ohno, and exaltation of Mazinger. Tisci chose the crane (very elegant and feminine bird) as the symbol of Asian culture, and he designed a gorgeous and techno-romantic collection of 10 dresses. Accessories are exaggerated: manga-headpieces by Philip Treacy and metallic leather sandals with platform and high heels.

The clothes are fragile and delicate on the front, but when viewed from behind they seem technology and almost robotic, thanks to fluo touch.

CHANEL Haute Couture Spring/Summer 2011

A lot of black and white, but also pastel colours for a rock-romantic Couture Chanel collection. Karl Lagerfeld has reinterpreted historical pieces of French fashion house; he has modernized and enlightened, with small crystals, the tweed suit worn over denim or sequin leggings. Silhouette is slim without forcing the body, everything is very light and fluid thanks to ultra-flat shoes: the only accessories on the catwalk along with black satin ras-de-cou.

PARIS SPRING 2011 Haute Couture DAY 1

Christian Dior

John Galliano has created a spectacular Haute Couture collection for Christian Dior, paying tribute to the legendary illustrator René Gruau who designed the ads for the scent of Parisian fashion house. The source of inspiration is the Dior's New Look of 1947: opulent dress marked at the waist by croco belts, while bright colours and sequins light up the entire collection of huge tulle dresses or tight skirts with architectural blouses. Headpieces are by Stephen Jones.

John Galliano fa una collezione spettacolare per l'Haute Couture di Christian Dior, rendendo omaggio al leggendario illustratore René Gruau, che ha disegnato le pubblicità per i profumi della maison parigina. La fonte di ispirazione per questi abiti sontuosi e opulenti è stato, ovviamente, il New Look che ha reso famoso il couturier francese nel 1947. Le linee degli abiti sono segnate da cinture in coccodrillo che strizzano la vita, colori vivaci e paillettes illuminano l'intera collezione fatta da abiti immensi con tulle a più strati o da gonne molto aderenti abbinate a bluse dalle linee importanti. I copricapo sono firmati da Stephen Jones.

Armani Privé

Giorgio Armani did for Lady Gaga a gorgeous modern Privé dress, so that we gave the credit to the singer that she brought the fashion designer out of his classical schemes. The Haute Couture collection showed in Paris never stopped shimmering. All the splendor of jewels is in the "space" dresses signed by Armani: organza had a reflective quality and silk was threaded with metal to produce a sheen. Dresses, mixed with leggings, had spidery silhouettes and some volute. The models wore "UFO" headpieces or fencing mask studded with crystals designed by Philip Treacy.

Giorgio Armani  era riuscito a fare, per Lady Gaga, un abito Privé decisamente moderno, tanto che si dava il merito alla cantante di aver fatto uscire lo stilista fuori dai suoi schemi così classici. La collezione Haute Couture che ha sfilato a Parigi non ha mai smesso di scintillare. C'è tutto lo splendore dei gioielli negli abiti "spaziali" firmati da Armani: l'organza ha un'effetto riflettente e la seta è tessuta con fili metallici che conferivano una lucentezza quasi accecante. Gli abiti presentano silhouette filiformi, sono solo arricchiti ogni tanto da qualche voluta e quasi sempre si abbinano ai leggings. Le modelle indossano copricapo UFO, o maschere da scherma tempestate di cristalli, disegnati da Philip Treacy.

Haute Couture in Paris will start Monday, January 24. Alexis Mabille will be the name that will open four days of fashion shows, followed by Christian Dior, Giorgio Armani Privé, Chanel, Givenchy, Valentino and many others. The last day will be January 27 and the Haute Joaillerie's collections will be presented.

Addio a Fausto Sarli

E' morto questa mattina a Roma uno degli interpreti dell'alta moda italiana. Fausto Sarli aveva 83 anni ed era considerato un maestro del taglio perfetto e del ricamo, del tocco severo e della sregolatezza dei colori . Ha creato abiti per Mina e Liz Taylor. 

Nome fisso di "Alta Roma", manifestazione italiana di alta moda che prova (inutilmente) a competere con la magnifica haute couture di Parigi.

Fausto Sarli è stato uno stilista che ha dato voce alla creatività italiana provando a rendere giustizia al Made in Italy.
