Balenciaga in New York

Is the first major survey of Christobal Balenciaga's work, from november 19 to february 19, at the Queen  Sophia Spanish Institute of New York. The retrospective pays tribute to couturier hailed as "Fashion's Picasso" by Cecil Beaton.

The exhibition will investigate how the work of Balenciaga was influenced by Spanish culture. Over 70 garments will be shown alongside traditional Spanish costumes and artworks, in an attempt to convey the unbreakable bond that the couturier had with his homeland.
His creations always suggest a flamenco dance costume, an embroidered matador bolero or clothes that resemble those worn in portraits by Goya or Velazquez.

Christobal Balenciaga continues to inspire for its strong sense of tailoring.
