Gareth Pugh has inflamed Florence!

Entry to Orsanmichele portends a fantastic night! The guest are greeted by a golden cube (the Gareth's hallmark). An endless stairway, lit only by candles, leads to a perfectly set up first floor, with lit statues and a giant cube at the middle of the room: a touching scene. It is still rising and you are greeted by blue lights and smoke that seems to come from the floor. It's a perfect contrast between the Pugh's contemporary and avant-garde and a Renaissance Florence.

Gareth Pugh presents part of his 2011-2012 fall/winter collection, that it will show in Paris next March, through a short film realized by Ruth Hogben. Natasa Vojnovic, Jonathan Baker and six dancers interpret on screen Pugh's fashion that it remains faithful to the aesthetic values that have marked his collections. It's a contrasts' fashion: male and female, rigidity and softness, structure and fluidity, darkness and light.

Twenty looks that are a clearly homage to Italian art and architecture: from Caravaggio to Bronzino plus many decades to religious iconography. It's a collection inspired by Italian Heritage especially for the artistic importance of the place of which Pugh was a guest. Colours are mainly gold and cobalt blue, but also white and the inevitable black. The clothes are made of light stretchy fabrics, nylon and leather and have sculptural forms.

The video was projected on two screen hanging from the ceiling, forcing the audience for 11 minutes to stand with heads above without complaint...all this was accepted only for a visionary genius as Gareth Pugh!

Gareth Pugh ha letteralmente infiammato Firenze!

Già l'ingresso a Orsanmichele lascia presagire una notte fantastica. All'entrata, gli ospiti della sfilata sono accolti da un cubo dorato (oramai diventato il segno che contraddistingue Gareth). Un'infinita scalinata, illuminata solo da candele, conduce ad un primo piano perfettamente allestito, con statue illuminate e un cubo, questa volta gigantesco, al centro della sala: per una scenografia quasi commovente. Si sale ancore e si viene accolti da luci azzurre e fumo, che sembra provenire dal pavimento. La cosa meravigliosa è il contrasto tra la contemporaneità e l'avanguardia di cui Pugh si fa portavoce e la vista di una Firenze rinascimentale.

Gareth Pugh presenta parte delle collezione autunno/inverno 2011-2012, che sfilerà a Parigi a marzo, con un corto di 11 minuti realizzato da Ruth Hogben. Natasa Vojnovic, Jonathan Baker e sei ballerini interpretano sullo schermo la moda di Pugh, che resta fedele ai valori estetici tipici delle sue collezioni. Una moda di contrasti tra maschile e femminile, rigido e morbido, buio e luce, struttura e fluidità. 

Venti sono i look in totale. La collezione è un chiaro omaggio all'arte e all'architettura italiana, da Caravaggio a Bronzino più numerosi cenni all'iconografia religiosa. E' una collezione ispirata all'heritage italiano soprattuto per l'importanza artistica del luogo di cui Pugh è ospite. I colori sono principalmente l'oro e il blu cobalto, ma anche bianco e l'immancabile nero. Gli abiti sono realizzati con tessuti stretch, con nylon e con la pelle e hanno forme scultoree.

Il video è stato proiettato su due schermi appesi al soffitto, costringendo, così, per ben 11 minuti, il pubblico a stare a testa all'insù senza nessuna protesta...cosa che poteva essere accettata solo per un genio visionario come Gareth Pugh!
